Back in June 2017 we were looking for a new challenge. We had just lost our beloved Ronnie (Mum, MIL and Grandma) and needed a new focus. We happened to stumble across PLASTIC FREE JULY. We looked up their website and decided to give it a go.

Saturday 1st July 2017 is clearly etched in our memory. The day started by collecting our newspaper off the front lawn, delivered in plastic wrap. The afternoon was spent in the kitchen cooking and it was like we were seeing our pantry through new eyes. We became horrified by the amount of packaging we had collected. It was disgusting and we were ashamed that we had not identified this earlier. This spurred us on to make a number of changes to the way we shopped over the coming weeks and months.

Over the last 2 years we have had many discussions with friends, family, mums at school etc on how we have changed our habits, moving away from single use plastics and dramatically reducing our waste. We have gone from putting out our landfill bin weekly to now only filling it up a couple of times a year. We recycle our soft plastics, have a home compost but more importantly reuse bags and containers when we shop to reduce the amount of packaging coming into our home.

We love how far our family has come and are continually looking at ways to improve. We love that our boys, Henry 7 and Oscar 5, think it’s normal to use a bread bag at the bakery and call people out when they see bread in plastic. We figure if our kids get it then adults can too.

Reuze It was born so we can share some of our strategies with you. All the products we use in our everyday lives. We love them and hope you do too.
